Lubuk Kilangan is a district located in the eastern part of Padang City, West Sumatra, bordered by Solok Regency, Pauh District, Bungus Teluk Kabung District, and Lubuk Begalung District. The area covers 85.99 km², with altitudes ranging from 25 to 1,853 meters above sea level. It is one of the largest districts in Padang City (Wikipedia Indonesia) (Luki Padang).
Administratively, Lubuk Kilangan consists of seven sub-districts: Indarung, Batu Gadang, Padang Besi, Koto Lalang, Banda Buek, Baringin, and Tarantang (Luki Padang). As of 2016, the population was approximately 63,622 (Wikipedia Indonesia).
The community of Lubuk Kilangan is known for its strong local wisdom, characterized by the philosophy “Adat Basandi Syarak, Syarak Basandi Kitabulllah” (ABS-SBK), which means “tradition based on Islamic law, Islamic law based on the Quran.” The society actively involves traditional leaders (ninik mamak), women leaders (bundo kanduang), and the younger generation (anak nagari) in various activities (Luki Padang).
