In Minangkabau weddings, several traditional games are often held to enliven the event. One unique game is “Bamain Coki.”
Bamain Coki
Bamain Coki is a traditional game commonly played by the Minangkabau people during various events, including weddings. This game involves two teams, each consisting of several players. Each team attempts to steal a stone or a particular object from the opposing team without being noticed. The game tests agility, cleverness, and teamwork.
Basic Rules of Bamain Coki
Team Formation: Two teams are formed, each with several players.
Object Placement: An object or stone is placed in a central area or an easily accessible spot for both teams.
Game Objective: Each team tries to steal the object and bring it back to their area without being detected by the opposing team.
Capture: If a player is caught stealing the object, they must return it, and the game restarts.
Winning: The team that successfully steals the most objects within a set time is declared the winner.
This game not only brings fun and excitement but also strengthens the bonds among participants. Additionally, other traditional activities like “bajamba” (communal eating) and “basilek” (martial arts) can also be part of Minangkabau wedding celebrations
